I was supposed to release this yesterday, but when you’re a final year student with exams, seminars and a copy you’re supposed to write, you get lost.
It’s safe to say I'm stretched out and I'm still being stretched. My exams have been horrible, and there is no hope in sight that it’s going to get better.
But in the spirit of showing up, i’m going to drop 3 random ideas that I wrote at different times, and one isn’t even from this year. Let's get into it:
Accountability and Discipline
We should be accountable to people as much as we are to ourselves.
Discipline is if I said I'll do it, then I'll do it.
Accountability is being obligated to answer why you didn't do it. Defending yourself in the public eye with legible reasons not excuses
The aim is to either get called out as a person whose words are true and align with their actions or to call you out as a liar.
And because nobody wants to be known publicly as a liar, accountability works.
Discipline as a product of accountability means doing all it takes to actually get the work done.
No matter how you’re feeling or what ever else that is happening. You get the work done.
God and Adversity
I got this idea in a bible study session in April this year
Nothing shapes a persons character like adversity.
“In our difficult situations, God has made provision for our comfort.”
- Some pastor
I think another way to think about “narrow is the way that leads to eternal life, broad is the one that leads to hell,” is that to achieve certain results, especially peak results, we must restrict ourselves to conditions too difficult for most people to follow.
Top athletes and professionals spend more time than average people practicing their craft to get to the top instead of involving in extra frivolities that aren't necessarily be bad but may be distractions that could prevent them from achieving that top goal
I think this behaviour is an example of how they narrow their path.
That being said, I now believe that the road to heaven that Christians preach about isn’t meant to be easy. And i’m sorry if any pastor or Christian has led you to believe other wise.
If you believe in the idea of heaven, and you want to get there based on bible standards, you're going to have to marrow your path
And more importantly, as it concerns you, if you want to achieve some top of the top level victory, you’re definitely going to have to narrow your and leave the distractions alone.
On Self-control
I took part in No Nut November this year and I ranted a lot about it on my Twitter
I’m a very sexual person so it was harder for me than most people. In the final week it got so difficult I started asking myself what the point was
If not for some of my friends who encouraged me through the final 6 months of November, I would not have made it through
Well it's December and I've gotten my nut 😌😎
But more importantly, I got something else…
That's right, clarity!
The reason you have self-control because it's supposed to have a point. It is not some meaningless suffering without any reward.
Self-control bring you towards a reward that will not be fully enjoyed if gotten prematurely.
Think of it like instant gratification vs delayed gratification
You only enjoy the reward when you feel like you've worked for it; when you feel like you deserve it.
Anything else doesn't feel substantial at all.
So I suppose the lesson that I always keep forgetting is that to engage in difficult things that require your willpower, you should focus greatly on the goal.
And that goal should be very important, very valuable, or it won't mean much
This is a hard mindset for me to get into
I know myself to be quite impulsive
But let’s give it a year, and see what I become
I hope this gathering of a letter has been helpful to you
