Coco has always been a delight to watch.
The elegance in her step when she struts. The caution in her eyes and body movement when she enters unfamiliar territory.
The way she stretches when she wakes up and how she yawns like a perfect human being as if to say, I don't really want to be up right now but here we are.
Coco is cute no doubt. Yes she scratches when she plays but it's not her fault she has claws and I don't have thick skin. She may be a picky eater, but at least she eats. Plus, the purring she makes when I pet her makes it all the more satisfying.
If there's anything I truly admire about her, it's how she listens to me. I've never had that with anyone before. Quiet, but attentive, always maintaining eye contact.
And when she hears the sadness in my voice she nudges her face into my hand as if to say, Daijobun, everything is going to be okay.
So imagine my surprise when on one of such venting occasions she talked back.
It was a late Sunday morning. I was dressing up to go hang out with a couple of friends I hadn't seen in years.
She was lazying on the bed, playing with her ball. Now whenever Coco sees something new or interesting, she stops what she's doing and gives it some attention.
So when I wore my shoes and went to check myself out in the mirror, it didn't feel odd that she was staring at me. That was until I heard…
Hey sexy.
I turned around. What? Did you say something?
She purred again in a sultry way, Hey sexy.
My head was pounding. I couldn't make sense of the situation.
"Did you just compliment me? Did my sexiness just make my cat talk? Wait, Coco, you can talk?"
She just eyeballed me and strutted slowly to her favourite place to sleep, as if to say, you heard me the first time boy, stop trying to make me talk too much.
And then I understood.
This was only going to be the beginning of several adventures we were going to have together.
Might be continued.
